Ya We're Those People!
Perla Parra, the founder of ECB and the Creative Director of the magazine, has been involved in the electronic music scene since early 2004. The first event she attended was a local house party but she was soon attending regular weekly events such as Loaded Wednesdays at Casa Verde. Currently, Perla is known as one of the local scene’s most successful photographers, covering events throughout the Sun City. She is also a freelance graphic designer with 6 years of experience and has worked with several design firms and media outlets.
ECB’s Editor and chief writer, Tony Olmos (a.k.a Anthony Data, formerly Kid Data), started spinning in 1999 after seeing Julius Papp at a Blue Sun Productions X-Factory party. After witnessing the shaman like influence the DJ could have on a crowd by manipulating turntables, he was instantly hooked and totally immersed himself in the culture by collecting mix tapes, flyers, attending every event possible, and researching everything about electronic music. Since then, he has spun at many venues and events, including small intimate weeklies, underground illegal desert parties, clubs, and large scale events (Future Fest, WildWildWest, etc.) He also held a residency on KXCR 89.5 FM’s underground electronic music show from 2001 till it closed down in 2002.
Jess Rox is a senior at UTEP pursuing a Bachelor’s in Print Media (journalism). She attended her first party at 15 years of age (Frankie Bones at the OM lounge) and 10 years later she is still here; a part of the scene, the people, and the culture. Although she enjoys many genres of music, including English and Spanish rock, Hip-Hop, ska, reggae, etc, her heart belongs to Electronic Dance Music (EDM). She is very proud to be a part of the ECB magazine crew. You can frequently catch her in the middle of the action, as that is where she thrives. As she said so sociably, “I LOVE music and people! Hope you all enjoy my stories and antics and don’t hesitate to let me in on some good parties, hit me up, correct me if and when I am wrong and/or provide any suggestions. Catch you at the next party!!”
Joey Santos is a Drum & Bass and Breaks DJ residing in Las Cruces, NM. After some time playing Hip Hop and practicing Turntablism, he got heavily into Breaks and D&B after hearing mix CDs and attending raves and club nights in El Paso. Since then, he has always made it his mission to turn people on to the music that he is passionate about and is always looking for ways to do that. In ‘99 he started a show called Progressor X on NMSU’s radio station, KRUX 91.5 FM, which served as a platform for his talents as well as those of the surrounding area’s local DJs. The show ran until ‘05. During those days and after, he has had the distinction of warming up for DJ Hive, Uberzone, DJ Dara, Planet Of The Drums and others. Joey continues to push the bass-driven, broken-beat sound wherever possible as a DJ and one of ECBs contributing writers.
