October 19, 2009 (Issue #2) – The name ‘Guy Gerber’ is far from being common and in fact, the sound of Guy Gerber is one of the most original and innovative sounds El Paso has seen in recent months. The Israeli DJ and producer set the bar high for other acts that come through the city!
Although SMG is known for bringing around more commercial and bigger names in the world of EDM, they picked a more underground and different act for September 4th’s ‘Friday Night Noise’ at Club 101. Gerber filled the club and our ears with intricate vocals, clean drops and DOPE bass lines. The music began early on (9 P.M) with RadioDelay, followed by Oscar from 10-11 P.M. The night got a little more interesting when they collaborated on a very varied back-2-back set from 11-12 A.M., which culminated in the appearance of Gerber at about midnight.
The set began with a very dark techy sound and slowly got more progressive as the set went on. The middle-eastern influence was obvious in his use of excellent malisma-style and Arabic-sounding vocals. The sound soon turned more minimal and the deep bass lines kicked in and continued well throughout the set. A clean and eclectic set (to say the least) by Guy Gerber!
Another Friday of EXCELLENT electronica!!
