October 19, 2009 (Issue #2) – 1. What do you spin?
I usually spin House of all kinds. I also play some Funky DnB, and I was raised playing Old School Hip Hop.
2. How and why did you start spinning? I’ve been a record collector since I was 8 years old. In 1990 I got my first job and bought my first set of decks from a pawn shop with my first check.
3. Where do you spin? We host our Body Language nights twice a month in Albuquerque at Blackbird Buvette and once a month in Santa Fe at Corazon. I also play about three or four guest spots per month around New Mexico.
4. Are you under any labels? I don’t have anything released, but we’re working on a remix project for Native Soul Recordings now.
5. Any companies? I’ve been associated with lots of production crews in the past, but these days Body Language is what I’m concentrating on.
6. Do you spin vinyl or CD’s? Both.
7. What are your goals? I do this for fun and for stress relief. Playing music for a packed floor is my personal therapy. I’m lucky that I still get to do it after 16 years. My goal is always to move people on the dancefloor without comprimising my tastes in music. I like to bring fresh music to the tables every time I play.
8. Do you have a website or Myspace?
http://www.myspace.com/reverendmitton
9. What has been your best and worst show and for what reason? I have countless favorite shows. The best ones are the ones when the whole crowd is together on the same level of love for the music and each other.
10. Favorite DJ/Producer? It probably sounds egotistical, but I’m my favorite DJ. I don’t by any means think I’m the best DJ, but I am my favorite, simply because I play all the music that I want to hear. I figure if a person is going to dedicate so much of their life to DJing, shouldn’t they have that confidence and repect for themselves?
11. Best party ever attended and why (not counting events you have spun at)?
Favorite shows are ones with people like Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Justin Long, Z-Trip, DJ Garth, and Jeno as DJs and producers. Those are my favorites, and people I consider much better than myself.
