October 19, 2009 (Issue #2) – 1. What do you spin?
Mainly a wide variety of House and Techno
2. How and why did you start spinning?
I picked up the violin in the 5th grade, before choosing the cello a year later. There was something about the low lush tones which really grabbed my ear. Influenced by my brother and grandfather, music flows in our blood since before my grandparents. My grandfather used to play bass fiddle since a young age, a family thing with his brothers telling him to. The brothers and sisters every Saturday night would get on the porch of the old farm house, jamming early bluegrass. I naturally went with what I liked and felt until I picked up on electronic music, developing an interest for everything that came out. House was the one realistic style that would incorporate all the sounds I loved into one track and tempo, including the disco, funk, r&b, soul, hip hop and jacking sounds which topped it all. Being a challenge to move certain crowds with this sound compared to popular dance music, I did not hesitate the start to purchasing records in mid ’99 after beginning to soak up the strong early el paso house sounds presented by some figures which really brought it during that time. I immediately realized I could still incorporate what was learned through orchestra and what I felt naturally, similar feelings my family had experienced. An irresistible force began

Maintain
5. Any companies?

7. What are your goals?
To give back to the community what is given through school, music, my family and friends. Continuing collaborating with like-minded people through production and events. Being able to play to scenes outside of this area, state and country. To push the SEK and Maintain as far as they will go, and to reconnect with old friends out of town doing what we do best
8. Do you have a website or Myspace?
myspace.com/spreadyluv, epconnect.net, main-tain.com, soon blacklightproject.com
9. What has been your best and worst show and for what reason?
I cannot say I have had a worst show, except the time at a house party when the speakers came crashing down and another time when I flipped the table/door being used for the turntables at a small warehouse party. Aye, why did you have to remind me?!
The greenhouse days were memorable. One night Joey Santos and old schooler Niko rinsed the floor with their signature D&B style. By the time the sets were at the end they had the whole place hyped and hungry for the House. I planned that night to play over 30 tracks. The place was packed with theenergy and familiar faces there making the night. Those times now are what still keep it gravitating
10. Favorite DJ/Producer?
Too many to name including local artists
11. Best party ever attended and why (not counting events you have spun at)?
You got me on that one!! A few recent events I can name. Jesse Rose at HardPop last year (lost my voice cheering so much) Christmas weekend. A few months before that I enjoyed Marco Carola at Harpop. Richie Hawtin last year on our side of the border. A few Albuquerque shows. Those places were memorable for the energy the people gave through what the dj had built up for them.
Go Back…
