With all of the weeklies sprouting up in our fair city of El Paso, more choices are becoming available for the discerning party seeker, one of them being Late Night Social Club’s “Go Bang” Thursday night’s. Dominic’s (a semi upscale Italian eatery) seems a less than ideal place to have headliners such as James Curd and Peanut Butter Wolf, but it is hardly the first restaurant weekly the area has ever seen. You really have to be there around 9 to appreciate the sight of paying customers trying to enjoy their dinners and wine as a crew of soundmen and front-of-the-house staff are shuffling gear around to set up for the impending mayhem that is Go Bang. Once the transition has been made from ritzy restaurant to EDM venue, it is clear that LNSC thrives on eclecticism, as made evident by their choice of guest DJs and headliners. Most heads prefer a straight forward mixing style, where a set is dedicated to one or two specific genres or sub genres, but they do things a bit differently here. House music is the main course but expect to hear some variation, as we did for the event on January 14th, featuring LA’s Pase Rock.

Pase Rock went on slightly before 1230, opening with a House music anthem that all the now defunct “Suck&Blow” weekly fanatics could reminisce on, a remix of The Juan MacLean’s “Happy House.” After some minor technical difficulties, he was back on point with a jazzy disco funk tune that drew the crowd back into his vibe. In the very much Pase Rock trademark method, he proceeded to skillfully weave many genres of music through his set; from RnB, house, funk, and old school disco without hesitation, and the crowd was loving it. Most of his set was all about the 15-30 second quick yet on point mix of tracks, including playing snippets of tracks like Crystal Waters’ "100% Pure Love” and Robin S “Show Me Love” and blending them with rhythmic, deep, housey female vocal tracks. The crowd was completely responsive to each mix, flooding the floor and getting down with his more “interesting” combinations. Towards the end of his set, he even mixed club favorite “Took The Night” by Chelley with Major Lazer’s “Pon The Floor.” A very odd combination that surprisingly matched up pretty well.

Definitely an interesting night that won’t be soon, if ever, forgotten. Nice to see a group of purveyors of fine music willing to do something different and bring these unique and talented artists to EP. Thanks, LNSC. We’re looking forward to attending many more weeklies in the future.
