UNITY

UNITY

May 1, 2009 (Issue #0) – By Luis Ojeda

So, what hell is “UNITY” and what does it really mean? Websters Dictionary states that unity is the quality or state of not being multiple; oneness. What does this really mean then? Dj Xeno9 from Lunar Meltdown Productions sets out to accomplish this feeling of unity with an event that he felt would bring everyone together under one roof. After the success of his first event, Lunar Meltdown, the timing was right. With the holidays just around the bend, Xeno9 organized an event that would catapult and define the underground scene.

On December 5, 2008, “UNITY” consisted of 12 local Dj’s, 2 stages and amazing energy. Over 1,400 people attended the event. As you walked up to D’ Club, you could hear the bass penetrating through the walls, smell the aroma of a dance club, and feel the anticipation of what’s in store while waiting in line. You can see people shaking their rumps, lights twirling, and the music pounding as the Dj is kicking out tunes from the main stage. The 2nd stage had a more intimate feel where people were forced to squeeze up against each other due to the size of the room. This room had two bass bins and two full range speakers stacked on each side of the Dj booth, and easily had more bass than the 1st stage. If you stood in front of the speakers, you could feel the bass singing throughout your body. And while walking throughout the room, you could spot a kid wearing gloves that lit up at the tips and glasses that sparkled giving light shows.

D’ Club, a fairly new dance club located in the far east side of El Paso, was established in the summer of 2008. The club had a different angle before it decided to promote electronic music. After “UNITY”, the club went through a renovation, “uniting” the main stage with the 2nd stage. D’ Club now features two levels and a huge dance floor. As you walk through the entrance of the club, you’ll find the main stage to the left. This is a very spacious dance floor with its own bar for serving non-alcoholic beverages. Again, to the left you’ll walk up to the Dj booth where the Dj has a birds-eye view of the dance floor. Finally, the upper level adjacent to the Dj booth is where people 21 and over are allowed to drink alcohol. This section has its own dance floor and a great view of the crowd below.

So as you can see, El Paso has potential and there’s a lot of local talent that we need to recognize. This scene is our new sacred ground, a ritual where we can escape the mundane tasks of ordinary life and just let the beats of the music take us away to another level of consciousness. Music is what keeps us alive. The vibe is there within us. It’s an energy that drives people wild just being together; oneness.

The more we try to place an image on this new scene, the more it becomes a feeling. It’s not about the clothes you wear, the color of your hair, or if you wear your sunglasses at night. It’s about going to a party, seeing people with the same thoughts, same feelings, and same issues as you, but being in the same venue, under the same roof, and dancing together to the same rhythm. That’s “UNITY”! That’s what this scene is about: unity and respect. Go Back…
